Historic Pesticide Evaluations on Agricultural Lands
BEC has conducted
Site Assessment, Remedial Investigations and Remedial Alternative
Analyses at numerous agricultural properties where historic
pesticide use resulted in concentrations of pesticides and metals
above NJDEP standards.
Using guidelines developed by NJDEP and the Pesticide Task Force,
BEC conducted a sampling and analysis program to identify areas of
impacted soils. (In
BEC’s experience, the major constituents of concern have been
Dieldrin, DDT, lead and arsenic).
The sampling is conducted on a grid; BEC uses in-house GPS
capabilities to determine and plot sampling locations.
Following identification of impacted grid locations (each usually 5-acres or less), BEC further evaluated these impacted grid locations by conducting vertical profile sampling and lateral sampling. Once the impact soils are fully delineated, BEC has conducted Remedial Alternative Analyses (including soil blending and soil capping) to determine the most cost-effective method of remediation, consistent with intended future land-use.
